What does gauge or ga mean when buying a sink?

The gauge is the thickness of the metal. The lower the number of the gauge, the thicker the metal. Therefore in the sink business, 16 gauge is heavy duty, 18 gauge is standard (for most manufacturers) and 20 Gauge is good, but for lighter duty applications.
Gauge in Decimals on an Inch
20 Gauge = 0.0375
18 Gauge = 0.0500
16 Gauge = 0.0625

Sink Gauge only applies to metal sinks. (Stainless Steel, Copper or Brass)

Hanging a Chandelier

One of the most beautiful, elegant and dainty form of lighting is chandelier lighting. A chandelier of the right kind and size can add a whole new dimension to a room. There is no doubt that a chandelier light adds to the elegance of a room. For the chandelier lighting to have the right impact on the room and its décor, the chandelier light must be hung properly. Here are a few tips to follow while hanging a chandelier light:

  • A chandelier being hung in the dinning room must be placed in the middle of the dinning table and the room.
  • It is best to buy a chandelier that is about a foot smaller that your dinning table.
  • It must be placed at a distance of at about 48 inches from the edges of the room.
  • If your ceiling is 8 feet high then the chandelier should be hung about 30 to34 inches above the dinning table.
  • Light from the chandelier bulbs that are just above a person can be hot and uncomfortable.
  • Do not use bulbs with high wattage, as they will cause excessive heat.
  • Use a wall dimmer to control the intensity of light and to set the mood.
  • Placing a chandelier in a lobby or foyer is an excellent way of demarking the interior of the house from the exterior.
  • While fixing a chandelier in the foyer hang it at a height that it illuminates stairways clearly.
  • Chandeliers hung in the lobby can be broad and longer than ones used in dinning rooms.
  • Conceal the wire or chain of the chandelier with some pretty fabric. Use fabric that is thrice as long as the chain and it will give the chain a beautiful bunched up appearance.
  • If you are finding it difficult to hang the chandelier ask your electrician to install it.

How to Order Ambiance Linear Lighting

how to install ambiance linear lighting
Once you have selected the appropriate wattage lamps and lampholder to be used in your light application, you are ready to prepare the bill of materials. Example: 9732 lamp with 9428-15 lampholder.
    1. Determine length of surface to light referred to as a "run". Convert the measurement of the run to inches for easy calculations. Example: 12' run = 144".
    2. SPACING: For general task illumination space lampholders 6" on center.
    3. CABLE: Determine the length of cable required based ON THE TOTAL LENGTH OF ALL RUNS. Additional cable may be necessary, depending upon transformer location. Example: 144" + 24" from run to transformer = 168" of cable. Note: Using 10/2 105 C cable (indoors only) the maximum wattage per run is limited to 300w for 12v or 500w for 24v applications. (For outdoor use, special 12v 105C cable (9373) must be used. Note: Additional protection may be required when running cable behind a wall, check local codes.

    1. TRACK: Determine the number of track sections required based on the total length of all runs and cable length. Track sections are sold in 4' lengths and may be cut to desired size. Additional track may be required based on locations of transformer and cable length. Example: 168" divided by 48" (track sections) = 4'.
    2. LAMPHOLDERS: Divide the run by the spacing chosen. This will determine the number of lampholders needed. Example: 12' run = 144", 144" divided by 6" spacing = 24 lampholders.
    3. LAMPS: Depending upon lampholder selected, determine the number of lamps required per lampholder. Example: 9248 (two lamps per lampholder) = 48 Lamps. WARNING: Serious risk of fire exists when mixing 12v lamps with 24v transformers.
    4. TRANSFORMERS: Multiply the watts consumed per lamp by the number of lamps required for the specified run. This result will equate to the total number of watts consumed in the run which will then determine the transformer wattage size required. Example: 4.2w X 48 lamps = 201.6w. Therefore select 12v 300w transformer. Note: Electronic transformers should be operated between the specified rated wattage. Magnetic transformers should be operated between 50% and 100% of the rated wattage to assure maximum lamp life.
    5. Select additional components such as: mounting screws, track clips, connectors, sleeving, etc. as required.
